     One of the geneticists involved in the research has doubts about the validity of the skin colour inference, and so do a number of geneticists. You know, the usual problem about the limitation of data to justify inferences, particularly pc ones.

     Political commentator Amy Chua has been concerned with issues of the nation and nationalism for some time. In her latest book Political Tribes: Group Instinct and the Fate of Nations, (Penguin Press, 2018 released on February 20, making this one of the first negative reviews in Australia), she deals with the issue of the nation and the re-emergence of tribalism.

     Chua is one writer who is unafraid of following the argument where evidence requires it to go, and she cites studies from across the physical and social sciences which indicate that tribalism is hardwired into human biology. We thus have in-group loyalties and out-group antipathies, much as we see with football teams, which is a microcosm of the big societal picture.

     I remember visiting Flinders University, which is south of Adelaide, once by bus, many long years ago. The bus number was 21 D. It took one hour to arrive, as two buses simply did not turn up. I was busting to go to the toilet when I eventually got to Flinders, to agitate in a public lecture. What a place! Isolated, and in the summer, very hot and windy, sitting on a hill. It is a symbol of the modern university, and was once only in one spot, but now seems to be spreading over the city.
